Google – you know the address – now see where they live

Google have opened their doors for the first time to offer a glimpse into their huge data centres, which power the online world. With hundreds of thousands of servers, multi-coloured cables and bicycles for engineers so they can get from one end of the centre to the other, it looks more like a film set from a sci-fi movie than a server centre. They are housed around the world in vast buildings as diverse as a converted paper mill in Finland to a custom-made server farm in Iowa.

If you decide to break into these places and have a closer look (a word of warning – the security force is strong) the front door is protected by a Star Wars Stormtrooper.
